What is Bayou City Art Festival? Bayou City Art Festival is Houston’s iconic art festival showcasing the works of 300 artists in 19 different categories at Bayou City Art Festival Memorial Park in the spring and Bayou City Art Festival Downtown in the fall. The outdoor festival attracts more than 20,000 attendees offering visitors the opportunity to meet with exhibiting artists, buy one-of-a-kind art, enjoy food, music, and entertainment. 

 

Why was the 2020 Bayou City Art Festival canceled? After extensive consideration of the current COVID-19 pandemic and the health and well-being of our festival family, the difficult decision to reimagine and reinvent this year’s Bayou City Art Festival is what we must do in order to slow the spread of the virus thought our community. 

 

Who made the decision to cancel the 2020 Bayou City Art Festival? In collaboration with the City of Houston and strong feedback from festival patrons, artists and volunteers, the decision to reimagine the art festival and rally the community was made by Bayou City Art Festival staff and its Board Members.

Is this the first time the Bayou City Art Festival has been canceled?  In its 49 years, weather has been the only factor that has impacted the festival until this year when COVID-19 impacted all of the arts organizations and live events worldwide.

 

What is Save Our Art - One Passion. One Purpose. One Community? Save Our Art, in partnership with the City of Houston, is a community fundraising campaign to help Bayou City Art Festival support the arts and local nonprofit partners in Houston. Under the ongoing campaign umbrella, we will be hosting several fundraising events including a Virtual Happy Hour Series and a Virtual Art Auction event and more in the fall.

Is Bayou City Art Festival planning any alternative activities or events? Under the “Save Our Art” campaign, Bayou City Art Festival will be hosting several fundraising events including a Virtual Happy Hour Series and online Art Auction. 

 

Each Virtual Happy Hour Series will feature a different artist talking about their process and inspiration in a storytelling format. The artist may also provide a live demonstration and auction a donated piece of art during the happy hour. The program will have a moderator that will host an art trivia segment for prizes and take questions from the audience during the Q&A segment.

Will there be a Virtual Bayou City Art Festival? In place of an in-person festival in 2020, a Bayou City Art Virtual Experience will take place on and around the week of October 10-11, 2020 and will feature an art auction, virtual performances, art projects for kids of all ages with Bayou City Art Festival nonprofit partners, creative activities with Bayou City Art Festival sponsors and more.

Will there be a 2021 Bayou City Art Festival? Yes, Bayou City Art Festival plans to return in 2021.  

 

I’ve already bought and/or received a ticket to Bayou City Art Festival 2020. What are my options? All 2020 Bayou City Art Festival tickets will be honored at Bayou City Art Festival events in 2021. No refunds or exchanges. 

 

Will you be accepting artist applications for 2021? We are currently not accepting artist applications for 2021.
